Messe Düsseldorf GmbH is planning a new headquarters – consisting of a new “Messe Düsseldorf Cube” and the fully refurbished administrative Tower B. The aim is to continue to reinforce the company’s position as an attractive employer in the region. All construction work is to be completed by 2028, with the necessary preparations getting underway as early as this year.
Düsseldorf, January 22, 2025. Messe Düsseldorf is entering a new chapter in its history. At its annual press conference today, the company announced the start of construction of a new headquarters, consisting of a new building (“Messe Düsseldorf Cube”) and the fully refurbished administrative Tower B. Tower A, another administrative tower located directly next to the entrance to Gate 2, will be completely demolished.
The goal is to complete all work by the time drupa, the world-leading trade show for printing technology, opens its doors in 2028. The first steps for this ambitious construction project will start this year. The plan is for employees to vacate the current office buildings by January 31, 2026.
A Modern Working Environment Symbolizes Progress and Innovation
The planned new building will be constructed to DGNB Gold Standard. It is 23 meters high, 50 meters wide and 50 meters long. The building consists of four floors and offers approximately 14,000 square meters of gross floor area (GFA), providing sufficient space for the company’s workforce. One highlight is the 289 square meter green courtyard, which creates a bright and welcoming working environment. A photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof of the new "Messe Düsseldorf Cube." Combined with a heat pump, it will power the office building. The administrative Tower B will remain in its current form but with a completely renovated interior. Both buildings will be connected by two passageways.
The major project marks another milestone for Messe Düsseldorf. “With our new headquarters, we’re laying the foundation for an open and modern working environment, which will increase not only the satisfaction of our employees but also their ability to perform at the highest level for our customers,” emphasizes Bernhard J. Stempfle, Managing Director Finance & Infrastructure.
Messe Düsseldorf Funds All Construction
One remarkable aspect is the financing of the project: Messe Düsseldorf will fund the construction measures on its own, a total investment volume of approximately €100 million. “Thanks to our sustainable and solid business management in recent years, we’ve created the financial flexibility to handle a construction project of this magnitude on our own,” Stempfle says.
Once completed, both buildings will provide similar working environments. They’re designed so employees can exchange ideas even better, work together creatively and stay in contact with each other. The aim is to create an environment that fosters a shared identity and strengthens the employees’ loyalty to the company. Both buildings will be designed to be open and inviting. Employee ideas will also be incorporated into the planning of this forward-looking workplace concept.
Further Infrastructure Projects at the Düsseldorf Site
In addition to building a new headquarters, Messe Düsseldorf is also setting the course for the future by focusing on the modernization of the exhibition halls and the entire exhibition center. In 2025, the company will invest more than €19 million for construction projects at its main location in the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital alone. From that total, more than €16 million will go towards the complete modernization of Hall 9, which – along with the North Entrance – will be renovated for a total of €200 million by 2029. Infrastructure investments are key because they lay the foundation for greater efficiency and the sustainable development of Messe Düsseldorf.
